Tengbom Architects

An office with an intrinsic value.

Historic buildings are able to witness the aesthetic and cultural history of an era already lost. A city needs old buildings to maintain a sense of permanency and heritage. Architect firm Tengbom's is situated in such a building, the Fire Tower. Now in a new up-to-date light.

Tengbom is one of Scandinavia's leading architectural offices. They are about 600 people working together, divided into eleven offices in Sweden and Finland. The firm has drawn many of Sweden's most famous and popular buildings. Now they needed help when expanding their office and planning new office spaces.

Tengbom's Jönköping office is situated in an old fire and police station, built 1896-1898, called Brandtornet (Fire tower). The property was built in brick-Gothic style with stairway motif. The premises in which Tengbom now have their office, is the former gymnastic hall for the fire fighters.

The old and very characteristic interior was emphasised and enhanced with our pendant luminaire Notor 78. We wanted to highlight the unique red-brown roof by tightening the luminaire's expressions so that they melted in as well as possible, while we were having a really nice functional work light.

Previously, it was a more incoherent impression with various pendant luminaires in silver, widely scattered here and there. Now it became minimalist and discreet with the colour of the luminaire like the ceiling.
