Nahkapaikka Oy is a family owned company, founded in 1976, which offers shoes, bags, gloves, belts and wallets. Their shop in the shopping village Tuuri, in Central Finland is one of the largest shops of its kind in Scandinavia.
Nahkapaikka started the planning of the extension in the summer 2014 together with Kokema Design Oy. Kokema Design is a Helsinki based design agency, which focuses on interior and spatial design.
The plan was to build an 800 m² new space to the shop. After the extension project the total floor area of the shop grew to up to 2000 m². At the same time both the interior and lighting were renovated completely. Wood, metal and acryl were combined in furnishing and interior design and special attention was put to the furniture´s functionality, design and colour.
The client was looking for an energy efficient, stylish and functional lighting solution, which could complete the new interior of the shop, emphasize the company brand and highlight the products at the most attractive way.
LEDs and modern control systems were a natural choice to this shop. Kokema Design Oy created the main idea of the lighting, and Fagerhult chose the products and produced a functional, comfortable and attractive lighting solution together with the customer.
General lighting was implemented with black, suspended Notor LED luminaires with opal diffusers. Notor’s minimalistic style and clean design with unbroken line of light creates a visually enjoyable feeling at the shop. Fagerhult delivered 780 meters of Notor lines to Nahkapaikka.
iTrack was chosen as a track system. Energy efficiency, flexibility and a stylish look, compared to basic 3-phase tracks, were the main reasons to this choice. The project contained totally 820 meters of suspended iTrack tracks and 530 pieces of black Zone Evo spotlights.
A special lighting solution was made by using different kind of colour temperatures. Notors with 4000 K create a fresh and bright general lighting at the shop. In order to highlight the warm tones of different leather products and to create contrasts and variability to the shop, 3000 K color temperature was chosen as accent lighting with Fagerhult’s spotlight Zone Evo.
Nahkapaikka also applied a smart DALI lighting control system. Controls create a great flexibility in lighting for example by sensing the presence of customers and giving possibilities of varying the levels of illumination by dimming.
This combination of new technology and well-planned lighting solution enhance the shopping experience, guide the customers and definitely in this case also increase sales. In June Nahkapaikka achieved one of the best sales figures ever in the history of the company.
