Astrid Lindgrens Barnsjukhus has done a tremendous work in helping sick kids feel better through something called Lekterapi (playful therapy). It’s a free zone where medical treatments aren’t allowed. Here kids can escape their every-day, play and do crafts to process hurtful experiences and learn about their treatment.
In this environment, there is a workshop where children are encouraged to be creative. The therapists believe that the workshop is the heart of the play therapy at Karolinska.
Our mission together with POND
We wanted to, together with POND and the therapists, create an environment where children aged 3-18 years would feel inspired and be motivated to create and be creative, either by themselves or with their families. The challenge was to make it possible to easily adapt to different needs and activities on a limited area.
It would be a friendly environment that welcomes, provides energy but also gives peace of mind. It was important that we created an environment that took advantage of the aforementioned needs but that is also easy for staff to manage and that can be operated without much maintenance.
