Lighting the clouds

We would be delighted if you could join us on the 5th June for the second in our 2014 seminar series where artist Dave Lynch and scientist Dr Mike Nix will reveal Project Nimbus, the culmination of five years’ collaborative R&D with the object of projecting moving images on to clouds from aircraft.

Project Nimbus

Part in Project Nimbus

Project Nimbus will be realised this Summer and this event will be its first public exposure following an exclusive special report in New Scientist. The technology will be made available for use from aeroplanes, helicopters, paragliders and even hot air balloons, opening up possibilities for spectacular cloud projection displays in the skies over almost anywhere but the desert.

They will be bringing the device with them and describing its development and uses. In line with the broader theme of this year’s events, collaboration, they will also be talking about Dave’s creation of Phase Revival: An optical Harmonica. This is an immersive kinetic installation, inspired by the physics of ultrafast spectroscopy – a means of observing the movement of individual pulses of light – yet another way of seeing light in a new light.
